Body-Safe vs. Non-Body-Safe Materials

Not all materials used in intimate products are created equal. Some contain phthalates, latex, or other chemicals that can cause irritation, allergic reactions, or long-term health concerns. At Nyxxen, we only carry products made from certified body-safe materials.

The Safest Materials

• Medical-grade silicone — Non-porous, hypoallergenic, easy to clean, and incredibly durable. The gold standard for intimate products.
• ABS plastic — Hard, non-porous, and phthalate-free. Commonly used in external components and vibrators.
• Stainless steel — Non-porous, hypoallergenic, and compatible with all lubricants. Also works with temperature play.
• Borosilicate glass — Smooth, non-porous, and body-safe when tempered correctly.

What to Avoid

Avoid products made from jelly rubber, PVC, or any material listed as "rubber" without further specification. These materials are often porous, meaning they cannot be fully sanitized and may contain harmful chemicals.

Lubricant Compatibility

Always check lubricant compatibility with your product material. Silicone-based lubricants should not be used with silicone toys as they can degrade the material. Water-based lubricants are universally compatible and recommended for most products.
